My work is a carefully modulated interweaving of two voices, the
personal and the public. The private strain is lyrical in mood and
spiritual in content.
As a Korean é©gré ´o the United States, the story of
immigrants in American culture is of special importance to me, and
my work.
Most of my work contains written characters, often drawn from the
Korean and Chinese alphabets. The use of my native Korean alphabet
and the Chinese calligraphy I learned as a child, place particular
emphasis on the beauty and strength of writing.
My works express an evolution; through years of development,
assimilating the American experience with my Korean upbringing. As a
result of this process I am able to use calligraphy and inspirations
from nature, to create universal messages that can be communicated
to both "hyphenated"- Americans and "non-hyphenated-Americans",
different and alike.
