I am developing my own language based on the repetition of
organic forms and unknown objects. Standard forms of the written
semiotic systems are limited in accessing the strong visual feelings
realized in painting. An important function of language is
communication between people and cultures. I aspire to use my
language to invoke an emotional response in the viewer, which
relates to the wonder and apprehension of communication.
There are three significant elements to my painting;
repeated forms of calligraphy and philosophy which stems from my
Korean heritage, bright tones of color, and flipping background and
foreground, which creates visual ambiguity.
By combining
personal and formal elements the paintings become an allegory for
the feeling that arises from communication.
